By accessing and using GearMedic ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service. These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and GearMedic.

GearMedic is a free OBD-II smart diagnosis web application that helps vehicle owners understand OBD-II diagnostic trouble codes. The Service provides plain-English explanations, probable cause analysis, cost estimates, DIY repair guidance, and information about nearby repair facilities. The Service uses algorithmic processing and machine learning, and all results are generated computationally.

3. Informational Use Only

The Service is provided for informational and educational purposes only. GearMedic does not provide professional automotive advice, engineering advice, legal advice, or any other professional advice. You acknowledge that:

  • Algorithmically generated diagnostic results may be inaccurate, incomplete, or not applicable to your specific vehicle
  • Cost estimates are approximations and may vary significantly by location and vehicle condition
  • DIY repair instructions are general guidelines and may not be appropriate for your skill level or vehicle
  • You should always consult a qualified automotive professional before making any repair decisions

4. User Responsibilities

By using the Service, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information when submitting vehicle details and fault codes
  • Use the Service only for lawful purposes
  • Not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the Service
  • Not submit false, misleading, or abusive content
  • Take full responsibility for any repairs you perform based on information from the Service
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations when operating your vehicle

5. Intellectual Property

All content, design elements, code, and materials on GearMedic are the property of GearMedic and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any content on the Service without express written permission.

OBD-II fault codes themselves are standardized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and are in the public domain. The specific descriptions, repair guides, and content on GearMedic are original works protected by copyright.

6. Third-Party Links and Affiliate Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites including AutoZone, Amazon, and other retailers. These links may be affiliate links through which GearMedic may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. GearMedic is not responsible for the content, availability, or practices of any third-party websites. Your use of third-party websites is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. GEARMEDIC DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GEARMEDIC AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

IN NO EVENT SHALL GEARMEDIC'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE EXCEED ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100).

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless GearMedic and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and successors from any claims, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) repairs you perform based on Service information; or (d) your violation of any third-party rights.

10. Modifications to Terms

GearMedic reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting to the Service. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We recommend reviewing these Terms periodically.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California.
